REPAINT THE TOWN

History
For many years, the local Jacksonville community has participated in the Housing Partnership of Northeast Florida's "Paint the Town" initiative. The city, private corporations, and volunteers all participate in this annual event aimed at transforming low-income urban communities. In fact, for some 16 years the city of Jacksonville has helped fund the project and supported the rehabilitation of homes in neighborhoods like North Riverside, Magnolia Gardens, and the Eastside.

Metro North CDC
Metro North Community Development Corporation, Inc. (MNCDC) is a Florida-based not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation founded in 2001 that serves a large section of Jacksonville, Florida's urban core and the northwest areas of town. Our mission is to improve quality of life and restore pride in Jacksonville's core city communities through residential and commercial rehabilitation and development, community-based programming, recreational enhancements, neighborhood beautification, and educational improvements.

Project Description
The goals of "Repaint the Town!" are to rehabilitate, paint, and landscape 20 to 30 homeowner-occupied homes; identify and implement neighborhood beautification projects; and create citywide awareness of the city's community development activities and the condition of many of Jacksonville's distressed neighborhoods.

This "Repaint the Town!" undertaking will serve as a key catalyst for the city's Neighborhood Stabilization Program 3 (NSP3) effort, which is focused on Jacksonville's historic Eastside community. We will partner with and tap into the volunteer networks of agencies throughout the city, by integrating volunteers from all walks of life and all sections of the city. Therefore, the plight of the less fortunate becomes a meaningful reminder of the responsibility of all residents of the city to make Jacksonville a better place to live. By helping struggling communities we aid in l reducing crime, eliminating slum and blight, and help restore a sense of pride and commitment to targeted neighborhoods.

MNCDC will leverage private funds with public funds to ensure that this intensive care initiative will have a lasting impact on the Eastside community. During Rehab Week in 2012, hundreds of volunteers came to the project site to help paint homes and landscape yards and common spaces. And in 2014, this effort will continue to be a true public/private partnership.
